September 2 – 4
We leave Colorado the morning of August 31, spend a night in Salina, KS and another night outside St. Louis, MO on our way to Cincinnati, OH. We’re rather tired by the time we check in and set up at Winton Woods Campground. It’s Labor Day weekend and the campground is packed. Our site backs up to an open grassy space that seems to be a favorite area for kids at play.
Sunday we go to my nephew’s house to visit, enjoy steak cookout, and celebrate a birthday. We haven’t seen them since last Thanksgiving so it’s great to be together.
On Labor Day my nephew brings the family to the campground so the girls can play with the dogs for a while before we all head to the Cincinnati Zoo. The zoo is extremely crowded but we have a great time anyway.
We see lions and tigers and … impalas
and giraffes and rhinos
and hippos.
The story of baby hippo Fiona has been a sensation on Facebook since her premature birth in January. Today she is outside with her mother and the viewing area is packed.
We haven’t seen everything at the zoo but everyone, except maybe Sophia, is ready to find somewhere for dinner.
So we stop at Cooper’s Hawk for dinner and then Graeters for ice cream – yum. Another perfect ending to a great day.
