September 17
It’s time for the sun to set on this incredible journey. We arrived home safely to find our house and property in good shape and our neighbors and friends ok after Hurricane Irma’s visit. We had a bit of cleanup to do in the backyard as the lake water breached the bulkhead and we lost another tree but compared to what others experienced, that’s barely a footnote.
To recap the trip, we left home on April 25, drove a total of 11,500 miles, stayed in 24 different campgrounds across 16 states (FL, LA, MS, MO, OK, NM, CO, AZ, UT, WY, ID, KS, IL, OH, TN, GA), and visited 11 national parks or monuments. We pre-planned all of our destinations and made campground and tour reservations well in advance. We tried to stay at each destination long enough to give us ample time to enjoy the destination as well as some downtime for relaxation, grocery shopping, laundry, and maintenance on the truck. In most cases our pre-planning served us well but there were a few instances where we over-committed ourselves on tours and activities. All in all, it was one incredible journey.
So, where are we going next?
