An Interlude for Repair

Quote-The-Time-to-Repair-the-Roof

May 20 – 23, 2019

Before we started this trip we knew that the roof of our RV was in need of some repair. We felt the best option was to take it to an authorized DRV repair facility. We had various options on where to go but we chose Rolling Retreats (a highly respected DRV Mobile Suites dealer and repair facility in Elk City, Oklahoma). Their location and available time frame caused the least disruption to our travel route.

Bluebonnet Ridge RV Park

We stopped for an overnight between Natchez, Mississippi and Elk City, Oklahoma at Bluebonnet Ridge RV Park in Terrell, Texas.

This is a really nice RV park – too bad we only stayed one night.

Rolling Retreats

A couple of days before our scheduled arrival in Elk City the area had a series of severe storms roll through along with several tornadoes. Fortunately the tornadoes skipped over Elk City and all was well at Rolling Retreats. Unfortunately, our travel day from Texas to Oklahoma was windy with 20 – 30 mph winds and higher gusts. Bill debated about staying put in Texas but ultimately decided to proceed. We made it to Elk City just fine but Bill was a tired camper after fighting the wind all day. We set up camp on one of the six or so full-hookup spots provided for Rolling Retreats customers and settled in for the night.

The next morning we were up fairly early and ready to pull our unit into the repair facility when they opened.

After unhooking and saying goodbye to our “home”, we took off in search of breakfast. At the nearby Cowboy Cafe we met the owners of the RV in the adjacent repair bay at Rolling Retreats and proceeded to compare notes. They gave us some tips on things to do in the area.

Route 66 Museum

Elk City is a small town along old route 66 but they do have a nice National Route 66 Museum.

The National Route 66 Museum focuses on the people who lived, worked and traveled the “Mother Road” and offers visitors a classic walk through all eight states, highlighted by realistic murals and vignettes depicting the eras of the road and the interesting places that made Route 66 so famous. — route66museum

Here’s Bill in a “Pink Cadillac”. Can’t you just see him driving this down the road?

No, then maybe this is a better option.

After touring the Route 66 Museum we went back to Rolling Retreats to check on the status of our rig. Unfortunately they wanted to keep the RV inside overnight and recommended that we spend the night at the La Quinta. So we packed an overnight bag, grabbed the necessary dog items, and secured a room at the hotel. We were a bit unsure about having the dogs with us in the hotel but they adapted well.

The next morning we checked out of the hotel and headed back to Rolling Retreats for an update on the RV. They estimated that the work would be completed that afternoon so we waited in their comfortable lounge area – nice big recliners, large tv, and full kitchen. When the repair work was finished, we hooked up the truck, pulled the RV out of the repair facility, and set up for the night.

Repairs are Complete …

The shop techs at Rolling Retreats did an outstanding job doing all our repairs. RR’s top notch reputation is very much deserved. We also want to give a shout out to the DRV Owners Group on Facebook for their help and referral. Thank you DOGs!

… And We’re Off

Where are we going from here? Please stay tuned.
