Emerald Water and Sugar Sand

We begin our Summer 2017 ramble in a location known for its beautiful emerald green water and white sugar sand. You’ve probably guessed that I’m describing the Destin area in Florida’s panhandle. Our RV park of choice is Camp Gulf.

You wouldn’t know it from the street but this campground is directly on the beach. The campground is immaculate and all the workers are friendly and extremely helpful. In fact, the fellow that assisted us when parking our RV (Greg) climbed on our roof to cut back some tree limbs that might brush against the camper. He also did a visual inspection of the roof while he was up there. Talk about service!

This campground has three different areas – the upper park with grass and trees, the beach area with concrete pads, and the beach front sites where the beach is literally your backyard. We prefer the upper park with lots of shade and less sand.

The campground has two pools one of which is enclosed during the winter months. They are in the process of adding a water slide to the lower pool.

No matter where you are in the campground, the beach is just a short walk away.

We didn’t spend as much time enjoying the beach as we had planned partly due to the weather and partly because we were both feeling under the weather for a few days.

We did enjoy a wonderful Wine and Cheese sunset cruise on the Nathaniel Bowditch sloop with Captain Rex. This wasn’t a wine tasting cruise, this was a wine drinking cruise. We could choose from several different wines (plus beer and soft drinks) and multiple cheeses (plus fruit and crackers). The weather that evening was ideal for sailing and we had a great time chatting with the other passengers. Thanks for such a great cruise Captain Rex!

After two weeks in paradise, it’s time to move on.

Like it or not, tell us how you feel!
